I AM Collection- The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

With the recent tragic loss of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain, the somewhat hushed topic of suicide has been thrust again into the mainstream media. These were two examples of truly badass and mold-breaking individuals who shone bright and will leave a mark in their absence.

Sadly, although these cases are high profile enough to have gotten a lot of media attention, there are many other cases who do not receive the same attention on a public scale.  According to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States. That is a shockingly tragic statistic.

Metal Marvels is proud to support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, an organization that raises funds and provides resources for suicide prevention. Their work with research and advocacy in communities across the U.S. is a vitally necessary resource for enhancing the care available to individuals, reducing the stigma around seeking help and providing support to loved ones.

If you’re looking for ways to help the cause in your own backyard, the AFSP has a list of resources for connecting with initiatives in local communities across the country. Additionally, they have resources available to support those in need.

For what it’s worth, sometimes the simplest thing that we can do to support those around us is to lend an ear, check in often and raise your voice to ask for help. If someone you know is having trouble reaching out, raise your voice for them.

The world is an infinitely more awesome place with you in it.
